shell feels high quality. appreciate the matte finish as it doesn't feel slippery in the hands nor does it leave fingerprints. make sure to watch several different re-shell tutorials along with the eXtremeRate video as they can give insight to different aspects of the project. I recommend using OEM membranes as a preference, and OEM screws when possible for quality assurance.
as you can see from the images i also swapped the buttons that come with this shell for the Chameleon Purple/Blue button set, and they pair very well together.

a side note for eXtremeRate themselves: i think some OEM colorways for the ds would do well (green apple, navy, ice blue, and the two toned cobalt/back and crimson/black) especially people who want to maintain their console that may have just been through a lot cosmetically. though i don't know if there's legal hurdles doing that, as well as a transparent green that is not neon, but closer to the green emerald like the pokemon cartridge for GBA. finally some more options for buttons sets would be nice (i.e. selling buttons sets that come with the NES, SNES, GB DMG, FC, SNES Classic styles as stand-alone sets)

To date I've bought the clear purple, clear blue, ice blue, clear green and clear pink and they're all really good shells. Fitment is great, colors are mostly great (ice blue is a massive let down) and even the membranes are great but DO NOT use any of the screws that come with the new shell. They're absolute garbage in every way. My only real beef is the lack of text on the rear shell and the missing DS logo on the front but hey, more room for decals!

The kit arrived quickly, packaged well in a secure box. Overall quality and presentation is very good, and it's handy to have screwdrivers and a pry tool included. The screw sets have spare screws for each type, too. The plastic parts of the shell are very nicely molded and finished. Fit and finish is excellent. Buttons are A, B, X, Y buttons are keyed, so they can only fit in the right spots, which is helpful.

I've never done this job before and found the ExtremeRate installation video was enough to see me though. It's long, but fitting one of these shells involves heaps of steps and that's how it's always going to be. The only thing I'd mention about the video -- all ribbon cables have a locking latch, including the smallest ribbon that connects to the lower screen. The latch for that one opens at the end *opposite* the entry point for the ribbon. Do *not* try to remove any of the ribbons without first releasing the locks first! Also, when refitting ribbons, it's like that you'll think it is inserted when there's still 1mm or so left to go. When fully inserted, the little side 'ears' on the brown section of the ribbon cable should be right up against the socket.

My main complaint is with the quality of some screws in the kit. The included Phillips head screws are passable but the tri-wing screws are rubbish - soft, pot metal. The heads will strip well before the screw is fully screwed down. Also, the included battery cover screw is about 1mm or 2mm too short to bite the thread. Luckily, the original Nintendo screws can be re-used in these situations, and they got me over the line.

Overall I can recommend this kit. It helps a lot to understand the job you're getting into beforehand. And I wouldn't recommend any DS Lite re-shell to a person who is impatient and/or ham-fisted. :-)
